4 Packing Tips So That You Do Not Damage Your Items

There is a bit more to packing than just putting your belongings into boxes. You want to make sure that your items get to their destination without being broken or damaged. These tips will help you with packing things the right way.

Double Box Really Delicate Items

Have fine china that you are transporting to your new home? Consider double boxing these really delicate items. Once items have been wrapped individually and secured in a box, you should put that box into a larger box with plenty of packing paper or bubble wrap surrounding it. This will give the box some extra cushion that it needs to prevent items from breaking, especially if it gets set down roughly

Cover Furniture In Plastic Wrap

You can get large rolls of plastic wrap from a moving company that are incredibly helpful. You'll want to wrap fabric items, such as your couches and chairs, in plastic wrap so that the fabric doesn't get ripped. If you end up rubbing an item against a corner, it's likely that the plastic wrap will help the item slide against the hard surface instead of catching on the fabric and ripping it.

Avoid Packing Perishable Items In A Cardboard Box

Have items from your refrigerator or freezer that you want to take with you? These items should be put into a cooler rather than a cardboard box. You do not want the items in a box to explode or leak due to the heat in the back of a moving truck, which can cause the contents to leak onto other cardboard boxes. This can accidentally cause damage to your belongings due to packing them the wrong way. In addition, a sealed cooler is going to prevent odors from escaping as well.

Place The Base Of Potted Plants In Boxes

If you are taking a potted plant with you, you'll want to take the base of the plant and put it within a box. Make sure there is plenty of packing materials around the base so that it doesn't shift around. You can then cut a hole in the box of the trunk of the plant to stick out of. Using a box for the base is going to give the plant a sturdy base that will prevent it from accidentally tipping over. If the plant tips over, soil can get over other items in your moving van and cause damage to them. Contact a moving company for more information.
